Petrol prices are currently at the top of the cycle, with an average of 139.1 cents per litre in Sydney.
NRMA regional corporate affairs advisor Helen Machalias said current prices were expected to remain steady in regional areas such as the Highlands.
“While prices are expected to fall in Sydney over the coming week, prices in regional NSW are expected to remain relatively steady over the coming period,” Ms Machalias said.
“This is due to regional NSW generally having more stable prices.”
The average price of unleaded petrol in Moss Vale was 145.9 cents per litre, with a minimum of 137.9 cents per litre and a maximum of 149.9 cents per litre.
Mittagong had an average unleaded price of 144.4 cents per litre, with a minimum of 136.9 cents per litre and a maximum of 149.9 cents per litre.
Up the road in Goulburn, unleaded 91 petrol ranged from a minimum of 123.5 cents per litre and a maximum of 141.9 cents per litre on Thursday.
Meanwhile diesel in Goulburn ranged from a minimum of 129.9 cents per litre and a maximum of 143.9 cents per litre, and e10 petrol ranged from 121.5 cents per litre to 140.4 cents per litre.
Ms Machalias said Goulburn motorists had a cheaper price because the town “is a bigger fuel selling centre compared to Moss Vale and Mittagong”.
“Goulburn has 9 service stations selling unleaded fuel with at least two competitive independent service stations - namely Metro Petroleum and Budget Petroleum,” she said.
“In contrast Moss Vale has two retail sites and Mittagong has five sites – which are serviced by the major oil retailers, with limited independent competition.”
The NRMA’s advice for saving on fuel:
- Monitor prices with real-time petrol price apps.
- Refuel when prices are low, not when the tank is empty.
- Avoid hard acceleration and braking, and flow with the traffic to reduce fuel consumption by up to 30 per cent.
- Keep tyre pressure towards the top of the manufacturer’s recommended range.
- Remove roof racks and bull bars if they’re not needed. Extra weight will increase fuel consumption.
