The Wollondilly Wanderers branch of the Ulysses Club is proof of this.
The Wanderers took part in a Christmas motorbike ride across the Highlands on Saturday, to help families in need over the festive season.
More than 40 bikes were entered in the ride, with about 60 riders dressed up as Santa Claus, Mrs Claus and other festive characters.
Riders started their journey at Mittagong RSL Club and went through Bowral, Moss Vale, New Berrima, Berrima and back to Mittagong.
The ride, which started in 2013, raised funds for the Highlands Community Centre.
Event founder Ian Keeley said while many motorbike clubs had toy runs for children, he wanted to shift the focus to adults.
“The kids don’t always miss out. A lot of adults miss out [on food] so the kids don’t go hungry,” Mr Keeley said.
“There’s a lot of people doing it tough and it’s not always their fault.”
Mr Keeley said families needed help over the Christmas period for many reasons, whether it is due to redundancy, an unexpected bill or a medical condition.
“I’ve been down that road, but I’m not there now,” he said.
“I feel for the people that are.”
Highlands Community Centres manager Suzi Kenney said she was grateful for the support.
“It’s an awesome activity, and enormously generous,” she said.
“It’s a good thing for people in the community.”
