►Australia’s first championship showcasing the best in miniature roses and mini flora was held in the Highlands over the weekend.
Hosted by the Southern Highlands Regional Rose Society at the Mittagong RSL Club, the NSW-wide championship included nearly 300 different entries from across the state.
The winning entry was a red ‘sprayer’ miniature rose plant, that featured the ‘four stages of life’ – flowers in their four stages of growth, from buds to full bloom. More here.
►Members of the LungNet Southern Highlands support group, and their partners, met on Wednesday for a walk and barbecue at Mittagong's Lake Alexandra to publicise the lung condition chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
►During the month of July more than 10000 pies were sold in the Highlands and one million dollars injected in to the Highlands economy- and it’s all thanks to Pie Time.
Australia’s first ever pie-themed month was considered a huge success by organisers.
And the event has now gained even more recognition.
►It’s almost time for the races that stop the Highlands.
The annual Bong Bong Picnic Races will be held on Friday, November 24.
This year the event has a historical theme ‘Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.’ After more than a century the 1915 Bong Bong Cup Trophy will be returned to the club.
►The kindergarten and Year 1 students at St Paul’s Primary School have been given a gift.
On Friday, November 17 the Moss Vale Lions club presented the children with a sound system to use in their classrooms.
The equipment is intended to assist children, particularly those with hearing loss, attention deficit disorders and learning difficulties, to hear their teachers more clearly. More here.
►Fourteen boats battled it out at the Southern Highlands Sailing Club on Sunday for round seven and eight of the Commodores Cup.
A 10-14 knot breeze kept crews and skippers on their toes throughout the afternoon.
The breeze shifted in strength and direction throughout the two races.
TRAFFIC: All roads are clear in the Southern Highlands today. Drive safely and enjoy the journey.
TRAINS: Buses are replacing the 5:20am Moss Vale to Campbelltown and the 6:53am Campbelltown to Moss Vale services due to a train requiring mechanical repairs at Moss Vale. Allow extra travel time and listen to announcements.
WEATHER: A partly cloudy day with light winds and a daytime maximum temperature of 21 can be expected in the Highlands today.
