A nationwide non-for-profit aimed at helping people of all abilities live their best lives has opened in Bowral.
The Benevolent Society held a welcome day on Thursday, November 17 at their brand new branch on Station Street in Bowral.
Director of The Benevolent Society, Paul Harkin, said the organisation provides services including support coordination, speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and mental health support for both adults and children.
“Our goal really is to help people live the life they want to live.
“It’s about choice.
“People have hopes and dreams and plans about what they want to achieve. It’s our job to work out what role we can play in helping them do that.”
Bowral-based employee Emma Perkins said the society’s point of difference was its “one stop shop” approach.
“We provide services directly,” she said. “We can help people who have different needs.”
“For example, at one of our hubs we have a client who is currently working with the disability services team as well as the mental health support team, and doing support coordination with a different team. And the children and family group have also brought her son in.”
The Benevolent Society has recently grown through a merger with the government-funded adult disability services in August, hiring 700 new staff and welcoming in about 4000 new clients into the organisation.
The Bowral branch is one of many new hubs recently opened across NSW.
