The first sod was officially turned earlier this year.
The station was approved by the Joint Regional Planning Panel after plans for the new station were rejected by council based on parking concerns.
The new station will be a state of the art facility and will include video links for victims to testify in court.
It will include some of the latest technology and increase the capabilities of Highlands police to deal with crime and community safety.
A training and conference room will also be part of the new station. The new facility will be in Moss Vale, at the site of the old Moss Vale Police Station.
