Thousands unite in Mittagong to honour legacies and sacrifices on Anzac Day

This followed more than 1000 at the dawn service.

Sections of the roads were closed for the community parade and march, where people lined the street to clap and pay their thanks.

"As we stand together as a community today, we acknowledge the vital role of all those who have served, and continue to serve on the home front," said Commander Emma Griffiths from the CO RANTEWSS.

"Without the support, commitment, confidence, and sacrifice of wives, husbands, children, mums and dads, sisters and brothers, it would simply not be possible for the Australian service men and women to do the work they do."

For widow Jenny McCreadie, it was great to see the community come together.

"I'm so pleased to see so many locals turning out, it gives you a feeling of hope," she said.

Frensham students Maggie Ryan and Luca de Manincor presented the message from youth, and emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the Anzacs, and other service personnel.

Reverend Robert Sharp read the invocation, and Mittagong RSL sub-Branch Vice President Simon Freund, read a commemoration of the casualties of war.

Towards the end of the service, aircrafts made the Missing Man Formation to salute those who are missing, and lost their lives.

Members of the community also laid wreaths and presented flowers.

People enjoyed homemade Anzac biscuits and refreshments at St Stephen's Church afterwards.
