Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is here again, and registrations are still open for businesses, community groups and individuals to take part.
While the official date is May 25, 2017, teas can be held anytime until the end of June.
Cancer Council’s community programs coordinator Sally Hudson said money raised would support NSW programs, including the Highlands’ Transport to Treatment bus, general and practical support service, Sun Sound at Bowral Swimming Centre and the Health Sports Initiative at Robertson/Burrawang junior crickey club.
“Taking part is easy – simply register online as a host, set a date in May or June and start sending out your invites,” she said.
“An event can be anything from a small gathering at home or in your workplace to a community bake off competition in your local area.”
According to Cancer Council NSW, many Highlanders have already put their hands up to host a fundraising Biggest Morning Tea:
- Daniel Marmont at the Mittagong RSL, May 25
- Canyonleigh Community Hall, May 25 at 10.00am
- Welby Garden Centre, May 25 at 11.00am
- Southern Highlands Cancer Centre, May 26, 10.00am to 2.00pm
- Judith Warner, Burrawang, May 27, Burrawang School of Arts.
- Patricia Lancaster, May 27, Berrima Recreation Hall, Taylor Avenue, New Berrima.
Some promise to be big events, such as the tea at Canyonleigh Community Hall.
Canyonleigh Community Association’s Annette Smith said there would be lucky door prizes, raffles, guessing competitions and a little trivia, along with entertaining games and some great prizes to be won.
“There is also our Great Bake Competition open to everyone, with the winner selected by the guests via the highest amount of money supporting the baked item,” she said.
“Our Bake Champion will receive a lovely prize too. We aim to have fun while raising money for a great cause.”
Judith Warner is back for her 22nd Biggest Morning Tea, which she holds each year in memory of her daughter.
She has raised $104,375 to date for the Cancer Council. Last year’s tea raised $13,875 at the Burrawang School of Arts.
"From the generosity of community donations, we've managed to raise this amazing amount of money,” she said.
"This is my way of giving back and assisting with ongoing cancer research."
