125th anniversary of Old Bank Boutique Hotel Mittagong

Discover what life of a bygone era was like at the Old Bank Boutique Hotel.

The building has been standing for 125 years, and the owners are celebrating this special landmark.

Warwick and Barbara Wainberg purchased the property in 2009 and spent seven years restoring it to its former glory.

“Developers had an eye on it to be demolished, and we don’t like to see beautiful, old heritage buildings be destroyed,” Mr Wainberg said.

“We wanted to bring it back to its original beauty for all to enjoy.”

The two-storey property was built in 1892 and was a bank and manager’s residence for many years until falling into disrepair in the late 1970s.

The Wainbergs enlisted the help of the Berrima District Historical and Family Society Inc. to collect old photographs of the district, which are hung in the rooms and halls of the hotel.

A special 125th birthday package has been created to mark the occasion, which includes two nights accommodation in one of the suites, cooked country breakfasts each morning, and a three-course dinner for two at the hotel for one evening, including a bottle of wine.

The package is available from $680 per couple on weekdays (or $170 per person per day, representing a 15 per cent discount,) and from $785.50 on weekends (12 per cent discount). The package is available for stays until June 30, 2017.

The hotel has five Victorian-era styled suites, a studio and a self-contained cottage, with rich furnishings, lofty ceilings, a grand cedar staircase, hand-carved wood panelling, individually designed rugs, polished floorboards, leather Chesterfields in the plush lounge and library, open fires, Egyptian cotton sheets and marble and granite bathrooms.

The Old Bank Boutique Hotel is located at 83 Main Street, Mittagong. Call 4872 4496 or visit www.oldbankhotel.com.au for more details.
