A Highlands brewery has combined the two to create a sweet, biscuity beer that embodies the Anzac commemorations.
Eden Brewery’s Jacob and Deb Newman started brewing the special beer about four weeks ago and packed it full of the commemorative sweets.
If you taste their creation and think the biscuity flavour is too good to be true, you’d be right.
“We added more than 200 biscuits, as well as coconut, golden syrup and oats to the mix,” Deb said.
The couple decided to brew the beer to keep their lineup interesting and exciting.
“Brewers in the past have brewed for special occasions like a wedding or a solstice or a harvest,” Jacob said.
“So there is a long tradition of brewers doing that and I think there is something really special about a one-off batch.”
More than 800 litres, which equates to 2666 glasses, of the beer were brewed for Anzac Day and will be on sale at the brewery on April 19.
“We have released it ahead of Anzac Day so that people can try it in the lead-up to the day,” Deb said.
The beer will also be on tap at The Mittagong RSL, so Highlanders can enjoy the commemorative beer while they play a game of two-up.
As for the name of the beer, it was called the Lone Pine Anzac beer to remember the soldiers who fought in Gallipoli, and to fit in with the Eden Brewery theme.
“All of our beers are named after different trees so Lone Pine seemed to fit well and match with the Anzac theme,” Jacob said.
The brewers had never made a creation of this nature, but said the resulting beverage was one-of-a-kind.
“We’ve never made anything like this before so it was a bit of a shot in the dark but it has turned out very well,” Deb said.
Although the Eden Brewery will be closed on Anzac Day, the Lone Pine beer can be purchased before the day in one of the 1.89L ‘growler’ take-away bottles.
Eden Brewery is at 1/19 Cavendish St, Mittagong and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12pm to 8pm but will be closed over Easter.
