Harmony Day is a chance for the message ‘everyone belongs’ to be encouraged and restated across Australia.
Avoca Public School students travelled the globe thanks to food options provided by staff.
“They had Korean duck boa buns, American-style hot dogs and Brazilian Brigaderio’s for dessert,” Avoca School’s Sarah Daniels said.
Mittagong Public School students formed a human chain of 500 students.
The children sang Different People Different Places while a ball promoting ‘Everyone Belongs’ and ‘Australia Is Us’ was passed between students.
Teacher Michaela Fisher said students also learned about the bigger picture of Harmony Day.
“It was a simple but moving celebration between the students and staff,” she said.
At Bowral Public School, students were asked to dress in national costume or wear something orange to mark the day.
Teacher Colleen Matthews said older and younger students came together to learn from each other.
“We had a fun day of learning about unity, accepting differences and living happily with one another,” she said.
