Matt Hall, the only Australian ever to compete in the Red Bull Air Race, has been runner-up over the past two world championship seasons.
Wings Over Illawarra will follow his performance in Abu Dhabi and his upcoming race in San Diego, the first two rounds of the 2017 Red Bull Air Race series.
The series features only the top 14 pilots in the world.
“My travel schedule around the world for the Red Bull Air Race doesn’t allow me to be part of many airshows in Australia but I always want to return to Wings Over Illawarra,” Mr Hall said.
“I like to show my appreciation of the dedication and hard work of the organisers, Mark and Kerry Bright, for putting on such a wonderful spectacle. I also like to recognise the efforts the event’s corporate partners make in supporting the aviation industry.”
Hall said he was excited to be part of the line-up of aircraft taking part in the event and was looking forward to meeting as many Red Bull Air Race fans as possible.
Wings Over Illawarra organiser Kerry Bright said Matt’s thrilling aerobatics in his Extra 300L aircraft and his impressive flying skills continually enthralled audiences around the world.
Ms Bright said the diverse program included ground displays and flying demonstrations of historic, military, modern and aerobatic aircraft as well as vintage car and motorbike displays, children’s rides and other aviation and technology related exhibitions.
