The Bowral lady turned 104 on February 23, surrounded by her friends and neighbours.
She has lived in Bowral for the past 24 years, and previously lived in Wingello and Sydney.
“I travelled around a lot for the fun of it,” she said.
Originally from Hungary, she moved to London when she was 18 to be with her sister, who was having a baby. She also lived in Canada for nine years, and became an Australian citizen in 1968.
“I haven’t found my favourite place to live yet.”
She used to help with kindergarten classes, and was also a milk bottle delivery girl. She enjoys sitting on her porch and watching the world. She was also an avid gardener when she was younger.
Mrs Szilagyi said she enjoyed the company on her birthday. “Lots of flowers, lots of presents, lots of nice people.”
She still has nieces and nephews in Hungary, and she visited them when she was in her 90s.
