THOUSANDS of dollars was raised in the Highlands to help struggling farmers.
The Burrumbuttock Hay Runners fundraiser was held on October 1 to raise money to fuel the trucks delivering hay to farmers in need.
Organiser Jacob Rofe said he experienced an “emotional rollercoaster” when he delivered hay to north Queensland earlier this year.
“I was part of the longest convoy of donated hay in the world,” he said.
“People lined the streets in every town we passed through to cheer us on.
“It’s hard to describe how bad it really is up there.”
There were many instances of generosity on the night.
Representatives from Kelly and Partners Chartered Accountants donated $2000 to sponsor Mr Rofe’s truck, and Bowral-Mittagong Rotary's president Linda Knight also donated $2000.
Rotary District 9710 representative Mark Wallace handed over a cheque of $10,000 for the cause.
There was a silent and live auction on the night, and Dhugald McDowell lent his voice to the live auction. About $4200 was raised by excited bidders.
The next hay run will take place in early 2017.
