Highlanders' furry friends were among those who received help from the community.
One special dog received life-saving support during the wet weather.
Mishka came into the care of Golden Oldies Animal Rescue founder Gina Fallon a few weeks ago.
She is diabetic and almost completely blind.
During her first week of care she was on insulin infusions and weighed just 3.7kg.
When the storms hit and houses in Mittagong lost power, Ms Fallon put out a call for help.
Mishka was unable to keep herself warm and Ms Fallon asked anyone with spare blankets to donate them.
A post on the Just Ask-The Southern Highlands and Surrounding NSW Facebook page on June 6 received overwhelming feedback.
Not only did she receive the much needed blankets for Mishka and the other dogs in her care, but she also received self heating beds and coats.
"We needed stuff urgently and we got it," she said
"I didn't expect the response that we got. Without them she [Mishka] wouldn't be here today."
Ms Fallon thanked all those who helped out during the storms and said she was extremely grateful for the support.
"I'm so proud to be living in the Southern Highlands. She's a very special girl. So many people came to her aid - the response was amazing."
Ms Fallon founded the Golden Oldies Animal Rescue three years ago.
She works closely with pounds and animal shelters to provide older dogs with a loving home.
Most of the dogs Ms Fallon takes in have been abused and neglected.
"We focus on the older ones," she said.
"No one realises there's so much love inside them and they have so much to give back."
Mishka came from the Blacktown pound and now weighs 4.6kg.
