A LATE try by Lachy Huntington helped the Bowral Blacks to a thrilling win on Saturday.
Huntington dived over the try line in the dying minutes as the Blacks recorded a 20-15 win over Uni at Eridge Park.
The Blacks made a break down the wing and a flick pass from Dan Collins set up the match-winning try for Bowral.
The result means the Blacks have moved into fourth spot on the Illawarra District Rugby Competition's first grade ladder.
Bowral has accumulated 25 competition points and has moved within striking distance of Uni (32).
Blacks head coach Gene Fairbanks said Saturday's win was set up by strong defence from his players.
Fairbanks said the Blacks were well led by players' player George Harrison, Charlie Hamilton-Fox and Charlie Lawson.
"It was really good perseverance," he said.
"It's the best we've defended all competition."
While pleased with the win, Fairbanks said there was still plenty of room for improvement.
He said the team needed to improve its attacking structure and phases.
"But we've now beaten two of three top teams, which is really good," Fairbanks said.
In second grade, the Bowral Blacks lost 51-3 on Saturday.
Bowral remains in seventh position on the second grade ladder.
