The show will follow Gran (played by Chrissie Shaw) as she unpacks the magical items in three of her handbags, including a big red bag.
Chrissie said the production was a family event and had engaged children and parents alike.
"Parents remark about how long their children pay attention for during the show," she said.
"They become engaged because they are asked some questions during the show but not brought up on stage."
Chrissie said the show was "good old fashioned storytelling" and was not reliant on multimedia, multiple screens and electronics.
She also said the script was multilayered and contained a number of theatrical references.
"When I do the show for families, the adults enjoy it too because it speaks to them as well," Chrissie said.
"There's a joke from Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest - if you don't get it, it doesn't matter but it's in there."
Audience members can look forward to puppetry, singalongs, stories and audience engagement.
Chrissie said the show was suitable for children ages four to seven and was a good introduction to the theatre ettiquite.
She also said although the production started later in the day, parents were expected to be home in time for dinner.
Gran's Bag will be held on Thursday, December 3 and Friday, December 4 from 5pm to 6pm at the Mittagong Playhouse.
Tickets are $15 per person and bookings can be made via www.cmsproductions.com.au
