Wednesday was National Student Principal for a Day and Exeter Public School leader Hayley Brown was offered the top job for the day.
The school's principal Andrew Barnes took his hat off for the day and showed Hayley the day-to-day roles of a principal and explained the school plan to the young leader.
Hayley's morning started by leading the morning assembly, which is usually led by teachers. She notified the school of any important messages and discussed the school plan.
There were plenty of highlights for Hayley as she took up duty in the big seat including calling her teachers by their first names, Hayley enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate at recess with her teachers and allowed all students an extra five minutes of lunch time.
"A principal's job is very hard," Hayley said.
"You have a lot on your mind and are very busy but it's a fun job because you help kids learn."
However, when asked if she would change anything as principal, Hayley said she wouldn't change a thing.
"I think Mr Barnes does a fantastic job," she said.
Student Principal for a Day is part of a national campaign to raise the profile and appreciation of school leadership.
In its third year, the event gives students a genuine and practical taste of what it's like to 'lead a school.'
After settling back into his seat, Mr Barnes said it was a "great" day.
