The show is one of the most prestigious in the gardening and landscaping industry and attracts entries from all over the world.
The garden, called A Time In Between, was designed by Charlie Albone of Lifestyle Channel fame to tell his late father about his life since his passing, and has various sections including water features and areas to sit and contemplate.
The award is another in a long list for Mick Conway's team. At Chelsea they won gold/Best in Show in 2013 with a garden designed by Phillip Johnson. It was the first time in 100 years a garden design team from Australia gained the top accolade. The team also won a silver gilt for a garden built for Jason Hodges from Better Homes and Gardens in 2012.
The team had 20 days to build this year's 22 x 10m square garden, however it takes about 18 months of planning before they get on the plane.
"It is really exciting and challenging. We are the only Australian team there, so in a way we are representing Australia in horticulture and landscaping," Mick said.
The team's garden is positioned in prime position on Main Avenue - a spot gained based on the design of the garden and their reputation from previous shows. They are almost guaranteed a royal visit.
"To be accepted into Chelsea, the judges first decide that every garden they let in is worthy of a gold, and then they work backwards from there examining each criteria such as build quality," Mick said.
The team included Bundanoon's Sam Bromfield, a second year apprentice; the trip to Chelsea is Sam's first overseas trip and the award will certainly make it a memorable one.
