What interests them?
Who are they when they aren't electioneering?
Who is the person behind the candidate, so to speak.
To help us find out about more about them, we asked each of the candidates to tell us five fun facts about themselves, along with their top five books, top five movies, top five TV shows and top five singers or songs.
Here's what Labor candidate Ciaran O'Brien had to say.
5 Fun Facts
1. At the age of 10, I was selected to attend St Mary’s Cathedral school in Sydney, and sing in the choir (even got to wear the charming choir boy robes).
2. Despite being born and raised in NSW, I am a lifelong supporter of the QLD origin team!
3. I love to cook and drink coffee, and like to think that if I ever fail in medicine (or politics) that I can start a café/bar in the style of Heston Blumenthal.
4. I love languages, and can be found quite often listening to Audiobooks attempting to learn different languages.
5. I have a desire to begin some serious mountaineering. When I get the time, I plan to work my way from Kosciuszko to the base camp at Everest.
Top 5 Songs
Frank Sinatra – Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars! This sums up my life. I push myself hard and aim high, going for the seemingly unachievable.
The Beatles – Let it be
With a little bit of faith and a willingness to move on from any struggles, we can emerge stronger and continue to grow.
Mumford and Sons – After the storm
This English band speak to so many emotions, however this song personifies the ability to get up after a knock down, and fight on.
Lionel Richie and the Commodores – Dancing on the ceiling
This is my celebration song. After watching Lionel at a number of ‘Day on the Green’ events in Bowral, I am yet to find another song that captures so much energy.
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
Reminds me of my childhood and Wayne’s World. Amazing band with perhaps the most incredible performer of all time. A song truly for the ages.

The ultimate feel good story for the little guy. I love losing myself in the magic of Roald Dahl.
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Seven of the most incredible books I have ever read. Certainly complex and involved, and written for readers of all ages.
The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay
One of the first books I remember reading, and a constant reminder of the challenges people face in life, and how everyone can make a change.
Ramses series by Christian Jacq
I love history, and love books that make me lose myself in the ancient world, to make me feel like I am coexisting in that time.

Star Wars (particularly Return of the Jedi)
I am a star wars fan from my earliest memory. I love the adventure and excitement of the Lucas universe.
The Shawshank Redemption
A great story that speaks of never giving up hope.
National Treasure(s)
Despite the relative ease with which the actors solve riddles, I enjoy losing myself in the adventure. I often dream of chasing history and historical treasure.
The Life of Brian
As a Catholic I find this a humorous depiction of history. One of the first movies I remember laughing to, and attempting to mimic.
The Lion King
Still an amazing story, about personal growth and development.
Top 5 TV Shows
Giggle and Hoot
If I am watching this, then I am spending time with my young son, and that beats TV shows any day of the week.
Castle
Nathan Fillion is brilliant as Rick Castle, a witty author helping the NYPD solve crimes.
House
Who doesn’t love a medical drama, whereby professionals guess a lot, and then make a decisively brilliant diagnosis!
Kingdom
Stephen Fry as a small town lawyer. Anything with Stephen Fry really gets me excited to be honest.
Midsomer Murders
Only the seasons including John Nettles. Always great to lose myself in Midsomer Worthy for a few hours.
