Residents from across the shire have put their hands up to contribute to this local monument.
Colo Vale Community Association president John Stead, who is a Vietnam veteran and one of the driving forces behind the project, wanted to have the memorial ready for the 100th year anniversary of Gallipoli, especially because the village didn't already have its own memorial.
"We wanted to contribute to the area and do something small for the 100th anniversary," Mr Stead said.
With enormous community input, the memorial will be created entirely from fundsraising efforts.
"We were prepared to put money in ourselves but we won't have to put a penny in, it has all been raised," Mr Stead said.
"We want to thank everyone who has helped. It has been a really good effort from the community."
The man behind the construction of the structure is Colo Vale resident Andrew Bevilles of Beville Brothers and he has been busy working on the base out of his own time. Some of the community contributors included Hume Coal, Mittagong RSL Club and sub-branch, Bundanoon Sandstone and the Colo Vale Men's Shed.
The bulk of the development is scheduled for completion in about three weeks. The next step after this will be getting people's names etched in the pavement.
"We decided to have names etched in the pavement and scattered around the memorial instead of getting plaques," Mr Stead said.
To complete this step, Mr Stead is looking for people from the area who have relatives or themselves have enlisted in any conflict. For those interested, contact John on 0414 946 694.
The memorial is set to be completed and opened at 2pm on Saturday, April 18.
