Both private and public schools have recorded exceptional results in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) with dozens of students scoring an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 90.00 or higher.
Chevalier College student Mitchell Rowett recorded the highest known ATAR in the district with 98.95 and said he hoped to go to the Australian National University to study a Bachelor of Philosophy.
"I wasn't expecting this and I started laughing when I saw it," he said.
He was one of at least six students at Chev to score 95 or higher and one of at least 18 to score in the 90s, including Serena Mevisson who placed eighth in the state for English extension 2 with a perfect score. Chev principal Chris McDermott said he was extremely proud of the students, 47 of whom were recognised on the distinguished achievers list on Wednesday.
"The whole cohort has done amazingly well and when we analysed the results, nearly all, if not all, of our students have achieved personal bests," he said.
The top student from Oxley College was Laura Farag who received an ATAR of 96.90 and excelled in mathematics extension 2, biology and chemistry.
At least three students from Bowral High School scored an ATAR of 90.00 or above. Corey McAloon topped the school with a rank of 95.35 and said he would start a flexible first year engineering degree at the University of New South Wales in 2015.
"After I saw the HSC results I thought I would come close to the 90s, but I didn't think it would be that high," he said.
"I honestly had no idea."

Frensham School students again excelled and headmistress Julie Gillick said the median ATAR for the girls was 87.28.
"At this stage, we are aware that between 34-40 per cent of our girls have achieved an ATAR above 90," she said.
"At least 66 per cent have gained an ATAR above 80 and 84 per cent have gained an ATAR above 70."
St Paul's International College students completed either the HSC or UNSW Foundation Program and head of school Peter Morgan said all students performed well.
"In the UNSW Foundation Program our students gained impressive grade point averages in all streams," he said.
"Vicky Tang topped the life science stream with an outstanding grade point average of 9.7/10."
Mr Morgan said the HSC outcomes were also strong.
"Vince Huang topped the year group and is to be congratulated for his application to his studies."
Southern Highlands Christian School and Moss Vale High School did not provide student results.
