Councillor Duncan Gair has returned as the mayor of Wingecarribee Shire.
Cr Gair won the mayoral election vote with Councillors Ian Scandrett, Garry Turland, Holly Campbell and Graham McLaughlin voting for him.
His opposition was Councillor Whipper, who had the support of Councillors Juliet Arkwright, John Uliana and Jim Clark.
“I’m extremely humbled to have been elected to once again represent the shire,” Cr Gair said.
“Wearing the shire’s mayoral chains is a huge honour and a task I do not take lightly.”
Cr Gair said he was looking forward to the challenges in the year ahead and working together with other councillors.
“I hope issues can be resolved in an amicable manner,” he said.
“One of my immediate areas of focus will be to improve the relationship amongst all councillors and ensure we work together towards common goals that will benefit our entire community.
“I also plan on representing and promoting this shire, its natural beauty, its businesses and its citizens to the best of my abilities.”
Crs Arkwright and McLaughlin were nominated as deputy mayor but Cr McLaughlin won the vote.
Cr Gair said he “could never have wished for a better deputy”.
Cr McLaughlin said he felt "very privileged".
“As council we need to shape up, we don’t want to be known as a dysfunctional council to our community,” he said.
“It’s nice to think there’s a couple of old boys that have now got the job, we both grew up here, went to school here and raised our families here.
“It’s nice to be able to give something back.”
Crs Whipper and Arkwright congratulated both councillors.
“Cr Gair you are a man of your word and I hope that we can work together,” Cr Whipper said.
“I’m hoping that we can find some peace, calm and harmony.”
Cr Arkwright said “I sincerely wish from my heart, that all things will work as well as they possibly can”.
“You and Cr McLaughlin work well together and I wish you both the very best,” she said.
“I look forward to being a most active councillor.”
