The Bradman Museum will celebrate its 25th anniversary later in the year and several upcoming events reflect the high regard in which the facility is held in cricket circles.
On August 23, 150 Country Cricket delegates from throughout NSW will gather at The Bradman Centre for their annual dinner and open an exhibition that will celebrate country cricket. Anyone who has played cricket in regional NSW will enjoy perusing the photos, trophies and other memorabilia, including Adam Gilchrist's caps, in an exhibition designed to focus on the contribution of NSW country cricketers to Australian cricket.
"Over the years many players to don the Baggy Green got their start in the country and this exhibition will see the curators delve into the Museum's rich collection to illustrate the tale of NSW Country Cricket," executive director Rina Hore said.
"For the first time ever a comprehensive list of male and female country players from the early days of Australian cricket to the present day will be featured. A number of artefacts from the early players will be displayed alongside items from the contemporary game.
"The exhibition will focus not only upon players, but cricket in the country regions with each region showcased. The exhibition will also showcase the connection and past games between Country Cricket and Bradman Oval."
The exhibition opens to the public on August 24, and a few days later, on what would have been Sir Don Bradman's 106th birthday, residents are invited to join in the celebrations in a couple of events.
Bradman's Birthday Lunch is regarded as an excellent networking opportunity for local businesses people, with Tony Shepperd and Maurice Newman among the prominent business people attending. Tickets are $95 and are available by calling 4862 1247.
Also on August 27, between 10am and 11am, a Teddy Bear's Picnic will be held at the Bradman Centre, featuring a birthday cake for Bradman. Tickets are $10 and bookings are required.
October sees the Bradman Foundation's 25th anniversary Gala Dinner, the first major event to be held in the SCG's new Noble Bradman function centre.
Then in November Bradman Oval will host a match between the Australian and West Indies women's cricket teams, with an accompanying exhibition on women's cricket in the museum.
