The shop, which originally opened in 1860, was reopened by the father of Maugers Meats owner John Mauger father in 1972, as an alternative way to sell cattle.
John stepped into the butcher as a as a wash-up boy at 12 years old, began an apprenticeship there at 15, and managed the store after his dad had a heart attack when he was 18.
The owner and his brother then began to expand by smoking bacon, making pies and set up a catering business with John's wife Vicki, which ran for 30 years.
"I think I have seen everyone once [in the community]," he said.
A third generation of the family business came about when John's son Mat took over the Burrawang store, and a premises was opened in Moss Vale.
The decision to close the shop, which shut its doors in July, 2021, was not difficult for John, and his wife, who work on the family farm.
"The kids have grown up with the shop, they were weighed on the scales, their affection with the shop is more than mine and my wife's," he said.
"It's a business we have had over time."
Mat then received an offer to take over the Oxley Butchery in Bowral in 2021.
Mr Mauger said there was a great opportunity to pursue a venture with the 796 square metres of land.
"Burrawang is crying out for another business because each business helps out the other..." he said.
The former owner said the possibilities with the block of land were endless - one could create accommodation for weddings, build a home, establish a small business, café or studio.
Believed to be one of the oldest buildings in the village, The Agency Southern Highlands property partner Stephanie Blatch said it was in "an iconic little spot...in the midst of a pretty quaint village".
"These properties don't come to the market often," she said.
