The SES Wingecarribee Unit has posted some tips on how to prepare for heavy rainfall.
Tips include:
- Clean gutters and downpipes - or arrange a contractor to do this for you. If water has no path of egress from your roofline, it will find its way into your roof space, walls and eaves.
- Clean storm water drainage pits and driveway grate drains so to allow them to properly direct the flow of water away from your property.
- Trim trees and branches that could potentially fall on your home or property.
- Fix any damage to your roof, including broken or missing tiles, or arrange a contractor to do this for you. Buildup of dirt should also be removed as it can block the drainage channels on the underside of tiles.
- Do not drive, ride or walk through floodwaters.
Sandbags and sand are also now available to the community in order to prepare their property for the impending heavy rainfall.
Self-Fill stations will be available at the following locations:
Mittagong: Corner of Old Hume Highway and Wombeyan Caves Road.
Bowral: Stephens Park, 12-28 Derby Street, Bowral (to the right of the amenities block)
Moss Vale: Moss Vale Saleyards, 205 Berrima Rd, Moss Vale.
Colo Vale: Opposite Colo Vale Community Hall, 28 Railway Avenue, Colo Vale
Robertson: RFS Station, 1 Wallangunda Street, Robertson *Robertson location will be stocked on Friday morning.
Residents are asked to bring their own shovel as non will be provided.
If you collect sandbags from any of the above locations, please call 132 500 and to advise of how many sandbags you have taken for your property.
This will help the SES in monitoring supply levels and allow us to restock the stations efficiently, as well as help them gauge supply for future flood events.
Once sandbags have been collected and used on your property, they are considered contaminated and cannot be returned or collected. It is the resident's responsibility to dispose of used sandbags.
If you require assistance during floods and storms, dial 132500.
In a life threatening emergency, call 000
