The Year 5 student from Bowral Public School has been selected to represent NSW in the Primary Schools U12 Australian Championships in August.

Students and teachers dressed in blue and marron on June 24 and held a cupcake stall to fundraise for her match in Canberra.

The chosen fundraising date is also a nod to the Women's State of Origin tonight (June 24), as a way to celebrate women and girls in sport.

Parents and caregivers made tasty treats that students eagerly lined up for at recess.

Arabelle is "excited" about the competition and has been a dedicated hockey player for six years.

"I love how it is a team sport," she said.

The journey to being selected for the state team started with competing in the Wingecarribee District team.

She was then chosen chosen to be a member of the Tablelands team after competing in Goulburn and then went with other schools to try out for the South Coast team.

That team went to Tamworth for the state championships and won their pool, and the comp's semi-final.

Fourteen students were then selected for the state team.

Arabelle was surprised to be chosen but cannot wait to compete.

Not only does she play for her school, the hockey lover also competes for the Robertson Hockey Club and the Southern Highlands U13 rep team.
