None more so than the u16 boys and the u18 girls division 1 teams which both won Waratah Southern Junior League competition in Canberra on May 28-29.

Although illness and injury played havoc with the squad, the u16 boys managed to to beat the favourites Albury 75-70 in the grand final.
En route to the final, the boys just made the top four division 1 cut by knocking out Illawarra on a count back before beating Shoalhaven 83-57 in their elimination semi final and Canberra 84-78 in the preliminary final 84-78.
As for the u18 girls, they were dominant throughout including the grand final where put on an absolute clinic against Wagga Wagga, winning 101-50.
It was a close first half, with the Magic having a slight lead at both intervals, but they then tightened their defensive effort and outscored their opponents 22-4 in the third quarter.
To get to the grand final, the girls only lost one game by a single point to Albury during the round games.
They then dominated them in their major semi final, winning 73-43, and advanced straight to the final.
Both the u16 boys and u18 girls will now play the other metro and country division one winners from around the state at Minto on July 30-31 for the State Cup title.
Those weren't the only Magic teams that performed well though.
The u12 and u18 boys sides were both runners up following close losses in their grand finals.
For the u12 boys, this was the first representative season for some of the players.
Coming from third place on the ladder after the round matches, the boys beat Canberra 43-43 to advance to the preliminary semi final against Albury where they won 54-42.
The grand final was a tough encounter against Queanbeyan and despite putting up a great fight, they went down 36-29.
After a narrow loss in overtime in their first semi final, the u18 boys qualified for the grand final against Batemans Bay by defeating Shoalhaven 96-91 in the preliminary final.
Even though they went down 57-62 in the final, coach Dave Cupitt was extremely proud of the boys for putting in a fantastic effort.
In other results, the u12 girls were knocked out in the first round of finals by Albury, losing 20-31 while the u14 boys, u14 girls and u16 girls were each defeated in their second round games by Canberra teams.
