Mittagong Markets
This weekend
Discover stalls full of crafts, tasty treats, homemade clothes, jewellery, produce and more. Head over to the Uniting Church in Mittagong on Saturday, May 21, from 8am to 2pm.
Berrima Schoolyard Markets
This weekend
There is something for everyone at this local market - kids can do crafts or play in the playground, there are plenty of stalls to explore, and you can enjoy tasty treats cooked by school volunteers. Make your way to Berrima Public School on Sunday, May 22, from 9am to 2pm.
Castagne Day
This weekend
Celebrate the taste of chestnuts, known as castagne in Italian. Chestnuts will be traditionally roasted in cones, and there will be wine and soft drinks from 3pm to 6pm. A set price three-course meal will then be served, with each dish showcasing chestnuts. You can munch on castagne at the Bottega B Ristorante in Bundanoon on Sunday, May 22. The three-course meal starts at 6pm. It is $60 per person and comes with two glasses of wine or beer. Bookings can be made on the Bottega B Ristorante website.
Harper's Mansion Open Days
This weekend
Explore the gardens, or have a picnic at this historical mansion in Berrima. Attendees are advised to secure a ticket for a timed entry in advance. The property is open on Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22. National Trust house and individual members can enter for free. A booking for two adults and two children is $26.99, adults can enter for $11.39 each and it is $9.31 for children over five. Children under five can enter for free. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.
Waterbrook Landscape Prize
Arts galore
Discover a collection of unique landscapes from far and wide at this local exhibition. You can see this free exhibition at Bowral Art Gallery until Sunday, May 22.
Paul Davis: Under the Influence
A unique exhibition
Potter Paul Davis will showcase fifty years of ceramics at this unique exhibition. It is his first exhibition at the design institution since 2008, and includes his most recent work and pieces from his artistic colleagues. The exhibition will also feature pieces from his colleagues overseas. You can see all of the works at Sturt until Sunday, May 22 daily from 10am to 5pm.
Mittagong Junior Disco
This month
Children can dance with their friends at this disco. There are also vouchers to win, which will be drawn on the night. The popular dance is making a comeback on Saturday, May 28 at Mittagong RSL, from 4pm to 6pm. Entry is $5 per child, with funds going back to children in the Southern Highlands community. Lunch time concert: Home and Hearth
Coming up
Relax by a fire and listen to a series of sonatas performed in a historic church. Soprano Danielle Grant, violinist Tara Hashambhoy and pianist Diana Weston will bring different symphonies to life. Popular songs with improvisations from violinist Ann Carr-Boyd will also be showcased. You can go to St Jude's Church in Bowral on Saturday, June 11 at 2.30pm for this concert. Bookings can be made by calling 4868 1768 or 0411 375 821. Tickets are $5 each, and can be paid for at the door. Card is accepted.
Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra: Winter Concert Series Two
Coming up
Celebrate the region's musical talents at this unique concert. The Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra (SHSO) will perform with local composer John Corley, clarinet player Alexandra Donaldson and violinist Emily Sinden. Alexandra will perform composer John Carmichael's suite of dance movements Fetes Champetres and Emily will bring Pierre Rode's Violin Concerto No. 7 to life. Musicians will also showcase other European compositions and dancers from Angus and Lucinda's Academie will accompany performances. There will be two concerts at Oxley College on Saturday, June 25 from 7.30pm to 9.15pm and Sunday, June 26 from 2.30pm to 4.15pm. Tickets are $45 per adult, $40 for concession holders, $15 for students between the ages of 16 and 21 and students up to the age of 15 can enter for free. Tickets can be purchased from Trybooking, https://shso.org.au/concerts/ or the Destination Southern Highlands centre in Mittagong.
