What you can watch
You can see two new films and a play at the cinemas this week.
See Marvel's Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (M) and The Drover's Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson (MA) from Thursday, May 5, at the Empire Cinema. General movie tickets are $13 each for adults and concession holders, and $48 for two adults and two children. They can be purchased on the cinema's website or in-person. You can also watch the screening of the play Ariadne auf Naxos (CTC) from the Met Opera on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 at 1pm. Tickets are $28 and $24 for concession holders.
The Appleton Ladies' Potato Race
A potato-riffic play
The Highlands Theatre Group brings Melanie Tait's successful play The Appleton Ladies' Potato Race to life. It depicts the annual potato race at the Robertson Show. You can laugh out loud at this play from Friday, May 6 to Saturday, May 14 at the Robertson School of Arts. There will be matinee and evening performances. Tickets can be purchased through the Highlands Theatre Group website, and are $35 per person for general admission and $30 each for concession holders.
Exeter Markets
This weekend
Discover more than 60 stalls full of produce, crafts, baked goods, jams, fashion, homewares and more. Come along to Exeter Park from 9am to 1.30pm on Saturday, May 7, to check it all out.
Colo Vale Monthly Market
This weekend
There will be stalls full of yummy food, coffee, crafts, produce and more at this market. Make sure you go to Community Hall on 28 Railway Parade, Colo Vale on Saturday, May 7 from 8.30am to 1.30pm to check it all out.
Waterbrook Landscape Prize
This weekend
Discover a collection of unique landscapes at this local exhibition. Judge Even Salmon will award artworks $2000 for first prize and $1000 for second. Two hundred dollars will be given to a piece that is voted as the People's Choice. You can see this free exhibition at Bowral Art Gallery from Saturday, May 7 to Sunday, May 22.
This weekend
Come and explore the gardens, or have a picnic at this historical mansion in Berrima. Attendees are advised to secure a ticket for a timed entry in advance. The property is open on Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8. National Trust house and individual members can enter for free. A booking for two adults and two children is $26.99, adults can enter for $11.39 each and it is $9.31 for children over five. Children under five can enter for free. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.
Robertson Markets
This weekend
This market is full of bric-a-brac, knitted items, antiques, tasty treats and more! Head over to the Robertson School of Arts on Sunday, May 8 from 9am to 2pm.
John Olsen: Goya's Dog
Lots to see
Discover art from John Olsen's incredible 80 year art career. He is an artist from the Highlands who has travelled across the globe throughout his professional life. The showcase is full of drawings, sketches, which includes new artworks and pieces that have only been in private collections. You can see this unique exhibition at Ngununggula until Sunday, May 15.
Paul Davis: Under the Influence
A unique exhibition
Potter Paul Davis will showcase fifty years of ceramics at this unique exhibition. It is his first exhibition at the design institution since 2008, and includes his most recent work and pieces from his artistic colleagues. He was the head of Sturt Pottery for almost a decade, which holds a special place in his heart, as a place where he developed his skills. The exhibition will also feature pieces from his colleagues overseas. You can see all of the works at Sturt until Sunday, May 22.
Crash Test Drama
Coming up
Watch a series of 10-minute plays performed by budding writers, directors and actors in the Highlands. You can head over to the Bundanoon Memorial Hall on Saturday, May 14 from 5pm for a 5.15pm start. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased through TryBooking. There is a free actors workshop for people starring in the dramas, which is going to take place from 12pm to 1pm on the same day. Registration is essential and can be completed through TryBooking.
Vivace concert series
Coming up this month
Relax and listen to the instrumental and vocal talents of Tommie Andersson, Susie Bishop, Jennifer Erikson and Alison Claire Robertson. Refreshments will be served afterwards and there is parking and wheelchair access. You can see this concert on Sunday, May 15 from 2.30pm at the Berrima Village Hall. Tickets are $35 per person and $20 each for concession holders. Tickets can be secured by emailing lyndall1906@bigpond.com or calling 0408 839 687. The tickets will be refunded if it does not go ahead.
