Paul Davis' showcase Under the Influence, will be on display at Sturt from April 10.
It is his first exhibition at the design institution since 2008, and includes his most recent work and pieces from his artistic colleagues.
He was the head of Sturt Pottery for almost a decade, which holds a special place in his heart, as a place where he developed his skills.
"I think every potter, weaver and maker, they might not know it, but they all have an invisible tattoo," he said at the 80th anniversary for Sturt in November, 2021.
"It doesn't matter where you go around the world, if you say you work at Sturt, if you're in Europe and America and Japan, people know this place.
"You leave Sturt, but Sturt never leaves you."
Students across Australia and the globe were mentored by the creator.
The potter honed in on his techniques in Australia at Sturt and Monash University, and broadened his horizons in Japan.
The Japanese government and Japan Foundation provided him with a scholarship, where he worked with Hagi potter Saka Koraizaemon.
This experience influenced the way Mr Davis approached, and presented his pottery.
His ceramic masterpieces have not only been featured in many exhibitions, they have also been used in restaurants like Bennelong and Quay.
The exhibition will be opened by His Excellency Shingo Yamagami, the ambassador of Japan to Australia, on April 10.
Saka Yuta, Makino Isamu, Yoshino Tetsuro, Maeda Kazu, Umeda Kentaro, Yasuo Terada and Hiroe Swen from Japan will also feature works alongside Mr Davis.
You can see the exhibition until May 22 at Sturt, and the gallery is open from 10am to 5pm seven days a week.
