What to watch this week

You can see a new movie at the cinemas this week. Watch the international drama Nowhere Special (M) - a story about a terminal man searching for a perfect family for his young son. This film will be released on Thursday, March 24 at Empire Cinemas. General movie tickets are $13 each for adults and concession holders, and $48 for two adults and two children. They can be purchased on the cinema's website or in-person.

Melting Pot Theatre Bundanoon is bringing all of the laughs with this much-anticipated play. Noises Off explores a play set in 1985 that goes "terribly wrong" and the dynamics between people involved on and behind the stage. Make sure you see this play from Thursday, March 24 until Saturday, March 26 at the Soldier's Memorial Hall in Bundanoon. Tickets for adults are $20 each and $15 for children, students and concession card holders. Tickets can be secured through Trybooking.

There are over 60 events seniors in the Highlands can take part in during this festival. From tours in Ngununggula, to art classes, or learning how to write a memoir, there is something for everyone. Events are free and accessible unless it is noted otherwise. There will be free pool entry for seniors at the Moss Vale Aquatic Centre during this period. This does not include the gym or fitness classes. The Seniors Festival will take place across different venues in the region from Friday, March 25 to Sunday, April 3. A full festival program can be found on the WSC website and event updates will also be added there.

Discover a collection of sculptures and raise funds for a worthy cause. The exhibition aims to raise awareness and funds for the mental health of young people in the Highlands community. Local artist Ben Quilty will judge the entries. The exhibition opens on Friday, March 25 at the Bowral Gallery, with an opening at 6.30pm. It will be on display until Tuesday, March 29 at 5pm. The gallery is open from 10am to 4pm daily.

You can listen to some live music by local artist Sara Berki, sip a cocktail, do some late-night art viewing and munch on food from Hearth by Moonacres this week. Come along for another round of Ngununggula Nights on Friday, March 25 at Ngununggula from 6pm to 9pm. Tickets for adults are $16.91 each, $13.75 for concession holders, $6.36 for teenagers and $38.01 for two adults and two children. Tickets can be purchased here.

Discover a collection of sculptures, listen to live music, see a science show and learn more about sustainability this weekend for Earth Hour. The World Wildlife Fund and WinZero will present the short film Regenerating Australia, which highlights different steps Aussies can take to a more sustainable future. There will be sustainable stalls at the event, as well as the Sculpture in the Gardens competition. Refreshments will be available and attendees can bring their own picnic. Come along for all of this at the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens from 5pm to 9pm. The gates open at 5pm, the lights will go out at 7pm and the movie will be screened from 7.30pm. Children can create art out of recycled materials in four workshops on the day at 5.30pm, 6pm, 6.30pm and 7pm. The workshop is $5 per child. Spots can be secured through TryBooking. This is a free event and attendees can register through TryBooking prior.

Discover stalls full of tasty treats, fresh coffee, arts, crafts, produce, flowers and more on the fourth Saturday of the month. See it all for yourself on Saturday, March 26 from 9am to 2pm at the Moss Vale Showground. Painters of all skill levels can learn night painting techniques from artist Halinka Orszulok. Attendees will create their own version of the local painter's award-winning work Ponies, and learn how to mix night-time palettes and create photo finishes. The class runs on Sunday, March 27 from 10am to 1pm. Spots are $127.69 each which includes the booking fee and all of the materials. Classes are limited to 10 people and those interested can book their spot through Eventbrite.

Step into the possible future to New Year's Eve in 2029, and postulate if people have done enough to make society fairer, cleaner and greener through this film about sustainability. The 'could be' film by Damon Gameau explores if the economy focuses more on the community and stories from people and their hopes for the future. The World Wildlife Fund Australia and WinZero will screen the movie and Mr Gameau will host a question and answer session with local panelists. They include John Hewson, Jonathan Jutsen, Di Dibley and Kirstine McKay from RegenAction. Be inspired at this event on Sunday, March 27 at Empire Cinema in Bowral from 6.15pm to 7.45pm. Tickets for adults are $20 each and free for attendees under 18. All of the profits from the adult tickets will be dedicated to First Nations peoples and local artists participating in the event. Tickets can be purchased and booked through Humantix.

Take a journey from Sydney to the Highlands and explore coastal scenery with the Cockatoo Run. The train goes from Sydney to Robertson or Moss Vale via Wollongong. The train will stop at the Summit Tank for picturesque views of Lake Illawarra and the Tasman Sea, before continuing to Robertson or Moss Vale where you can enjoy lunch and relax. Attendees have the opportunity to get off or continue the route from the summit Tank to the Highlands. Immerse yourself in all of this scenery on Sunday, March 27 from 8.30am from Central Station. The train usually departs from Platform 1, so travellers are advised to check adjoining train timetables to get there on time. You can find more information on the East Coast Heritage Trail website and purchase tickets though 123tix. Ticket prices vary for children, seniors and adults from Sydney and the Illawarra for different seats in the train.

Immerse yourself in these community markets. You can discover a variety of gourmet foods, clothing, homewares and gifts for loved ones. Attendees can also enjoy a sausage sizzle and food from the school café. Come along and discover it all at Berrima Public School from 9am to 2pm on Sunday, March 27. The event is free to attend.

This is artist Jessica Pound's solo exhibition which features a series of 34 wrestlers from the All Elite Wrestling League (AEW) in the USA. Jess has been a practicing artist for over four years and has developed parts of her exhibition in Mittagong for over six weeks. The exhibition features detailed digital drawings and can be viewed at Mental Bowral until Monday, March 28. Entry is free. The gallery is open from Friday to Monday from 10am to 5pm.

Children with autism between the ages of five and 16 have the opportunity be a circus performer for a day with Autism Spectrum Disorder Education Support and Information (ASDESI) and Interchange Australia. Attendees have the chance to try trapeze work, pyramid building, juggling, twirling, hula hoops, the tight wire and acrobatic balancing. Children are encouraged to wear blue on the day. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are included. All of the fun can be had on Saturday, April 2, at Circus Arts in Homebush. Bookings for the event close on Friday, March 25. The children will be picked up from Gib Cottage in Bowral at 8am and dropped off at 5pm. Bookings are $30 per child and can be made through Jotform. Dale Dryen and Ruth Thompson have come together and curated an exhibition full of female timber masters and artists. Twenty-eight creators will feature in this exhibition full of wood crafts and bronze, ceramic mosaic and porcelain pieces. You can see all of the masterpieces from 11am to 5pm daily until April 3 at Sturt.

Discover a range of artworks by local artists. You can explore a variety of paintings, sculptures and ceramics in Retford Park and the White Cottage Gallery in Wentworth Falls. You can check out the artworks in Bowral from Friday to Monday from 10am to 4pm until Monday, May 16.

Sit back, relax and listen to a variety of performances from artists and musicians. Hear the cello, piano solos and duets, singers and poetry. You can watch these performances on Sunday, April 10 from 2.30pm at the Berrima Village Hall opposite the Magpie Café. Tickets are $35 each for general admission and $20 for students.
