The Yerrinbool Village Group secured funding via the Community Building Partnership Grants, which will be used to create a shelter which offers weather protection, and cover the tables and chairs locals use.
It will also allow community gardeners to harvest rainwater.
Yerrinbool Village Group chair Maryann Anderson was "just really grateful", and said the shelter would be a welcomed addition.
"The roof will be on, and we will be really happy, and [we can] do lots of things there," she said.
"[We] go every Monday to work on the garden and have a cuppa, [but it has been] hot and [there is] no shade."
A group of dedicated locals have been beautifying the garden at the railway since 2018, and the railway has been a fixture in the village since 1919.
People have gathered at the railway station for activities such as horticultural workshops, the monthly mini market and the chance to visit the community garden weekly.
"In the past, we've had up to 10 people and been on chairs huddled," Mrs Anderson said.
The importance of gathering outdoors in the wake of COVID has made the shelter essential.
Highlanders have the opportunity to visit the railway garden every Monday from 10am to 12pm, and discover varieties of fresh produce, flowers and art at the mini market on the fourth Saturday of the month.
There will be a sausage sizzle, cakes and refreshments at the mini market this Saturday (January 22).
A horticulturalist is also going to hold a workshop on January 31, on how to care for succulents from 10am to 12pm.
