Over 35 dedicated volunteers help run the shop, and profits are used to fund services to help youth, families and locals doing it tough, to provide opportunities for a positive future.
The shop on Bundaroo Street is part of the not-for-profit organisation Father Chris Riley's Youth Off the Streets which was founded by Father Chris Riley in 1991.
Op shop volunteer joint coordinator Susie Burnard said that there was a loyal base of customers in the Highlands who have supported the initiative over the years.
"People are very generous around here," she said.
"They like to see things go to people instead of landfill."
Highlanders have the opportunity repurpose and give items a new lease of life by buying from the store, especially in the lead-up to Christmas.
The shop welcomed new and regular customers back once restrictions eased.
"During COVID, people sorted their wardrobe and we received welcome donations," she said.
Volunteer and publicity coordinator Chris Beach said that she got a "tremendous buzz" when she has sold items and seen the positive impact they have on the customer.
"It's nice to be able to help people," publicity coordinator and volunteer Mary Davies said.
"We are giving time to something special."
The shop in Bowral is one of three Father Riley's op shops in NSW.
Customers can discover a range of items such as bric-a-brac, kitchenware, books and clothes, some of them designer wear.
The volunteers said it was a wonderful place to support others in the community.
"You can't live in the community without giving back to it," Susie said.
Highlanders can get in touch with Susie on 0406 488 262 if they want more information, have items they wan to donate such (but only small items of furniture) or are interested in volunteering.
If you have quality items you want to donate, it is best to call ahead.
Highlanders can have a chat to volunteers and purchase a selection of interesting and quality items at the op shop's regular stall at the Bowral Market.
The next market is on December 11 at the Bowral Bowling Club from 8am to 1pm.
Father Chris Riley's Op Shop Bowral is open from 9.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to 1pm on Saturday.
