'Karingal' in Moss Vale and two houses, 2 and 4 Myrtle Street, Bowral will have a six month interim heritage order placed on the homes which were built by prominent builder Alf Stephens.

The interim heritage orders for the properties were published in the NSW Government gazette on November 19, 2021.

Currently, 'Karingal' at 26 Elizabeth Street, Moss Vale has two development applications for a subdivision and a townhouse and number 4 Myrtle Street has a complying development application for demolition and construction of townhouses.

A Wingecarribee Shire Council spokesperson said the properties were of heritage interest.

"By issuing an interim heritage order over them, it provides time for confirmation of heritage significance and to undertake the process of heritage listing via a Planning Proposal," they said.

"Under section 25 of the Heritage Act 1977, an interim heritage order may be placed on items, places and areas that may be found, on further investigation, to be of State or local significance and that are under threat.

"The interim heritage order process delegated to the councils provides a six month protection to enable heritage investigations to be carried out."

"The interim heritage order can be extended to 12 months if the council, during the first six months, makes a resolution to include the item in its heritage schedule."
