After the lockdown, bowls were in limbo. 30 bowlers turned up to play but with consistent rain falling, it were only the ones who wanted to get a drenching who took to the greens and had limited play before returning to the club house.

Terry Norwood and Brian Bailey played Grahame Hunt and Peter Morales and they got to eight ends before rain forced them off the green with the score 5-all.
The only rink to go any distance was number nine.
Eric Willacy, Glen Giese, Robin Staples defeated Ted McPhee, Chris Forrester, Gordon Lewis 11-8.
The match was well contested but after 12 ends, and all six players looking "miles apart" in appearance than when they went onto the rink, decided to call it a day.
Under the conditions it was a surprise, the standard of bowls played.
After two ends Team Staples had a 6-nil lead and it was thought Team Lewis would collapse but this was not the case.
They won the next six ends but only picked up one shot on each end to have the scores tied at 6-all.
On the 10th end Team Lewis scored two shots to go to a 8-7 lead. Team Staples then came back strong to pick up two shots on each of the next two ends and after 12 ends had a lead of 11-8.
Concerned for player welfare, at least one player had the sense to say "let's call it a day."
Thank you Chris, a wise decision as the skippers would have stayed right to the 21 ends!
After all it was a good afternoon and welcome back to bowls. A day that makes us think and appreciate life more after all the lockdowns we have had.

Vale Daniel 'Larry' Minehan
Long time member Larry Minehan passed away on September 30 2021.
Bowral Bowling Club offers their deepest sympathies to the family. Some of the members would not have known that Larry was also a very accomplished golfer and won titles at the Bowral Country Club.
Larry had a hand operation that cut short his playing days at golf. Larry could not play bowls but was a regular at the club and was always looking towards the pennant season.
At the memorial service at Beavans Chapel and virtually relayed to Bowral Bowling Club, the following was read out and this certainly sums up Larry Minehan.
A good man
A good man never dies--
In worthy deed and prayer
And helpful hands, and honest eyes,
If smiles or tears be there:
Who lives for you and me--
Lives for the world he tries
To help--he lives eternally.
A good man never dies.
Who lives to bravely take
His share of toil and stress,
And, for his weaker fellows' sake,
Makes every burden less,--
He may, at last, seem worn--
Lie fallen--hands and eyes
Folded--yet, though we mourn and mourn,
A good man never dies.
