As part of the inaugural Robertson Potato Festival, planned for April 30-May 1, the hugely successful play 'The Appleton Ladies' Potato Race' will make its Southern Highlands debut, performed by the Highlands Theatre Group.

"I am thrilled to be have this performance confirmed as a key element of the festival," said festival organiser Gary Fitz-Roy of Expertise Events.
"The play has certainly caused a lot of talk amongst the town - now they can watch it here in Robertson and judge for themselves.
"Coming out of the pandemic, we can't take ourselves too seriously; and from all feedback, it is very funny. We certainly all need a good laugh after the last two years!"
ABC broadcaster, playwright, author and storyteller Melanie Tait, who hails from Robertson, penned the laugh-out-loud play, which was inspired by the famous Potato Race at the annual Robertson Show.

The play has received critical acclaim with two professional runs and sell-out sessions, but this will be the first time it has been seen in the town of Robertson and the Southern Highlands.
Ms Tait first found storytelling success when at 20 years of age she wrote the comedy theatrical production The Vegemite Tales, which played in London over seven years from 2001 to 2007, including two years on the West End.
In another coup, this is the first time the rights to perform the play have been awarded to a community theatre group.
"It's an absolute honour for us to produce a show written by a local that has received so much success and been so highly rated by media, attendees and writers alike," said Highlands Theatre Group president Steve Cheers.
"It's a great play that engages you from the outset and you can't help but laugh and smile with some of the lines and characters.
"The School of Arts Community Hall in Robertson will be perfect in providing an intimate theatrical experience which will add to the overall production."
The inaugural Potato Festival is set for the weekend of April 30 to May 1, at the Robertson Showground and a number of activities throughout the town and surrounding region are being developed.
There will be four sessions of the play with the first on Friday night, April 29, as part of the opening celebrations of the Festival.
