The earthworks involve installing subsoil drainage at various locations along Old South Road between Merrigang Street in Bowral and Range Road in Mittagong.
Construction activities will be carried out between 7 am and 5 pm weekdays by Council's contractor Carve Earthworks.
Weather permitting works are expected to be complete by mid-November 2021.
Signage will be erected, and traffic controllers will be located onsite during construction hours to manage traffic.
Road users are cautioned to follow the changed traffic conditions, exercise care when traveling through the work zones and be aware of loose stones and heavy machinery within the work areas.
The council thanks residents and motorists in advance for their cooperation and apologise for any temporary delays or inconvenience.
The earthworks are the first stage of a multi-million-dollar upgrade planned for Old South Road.
