October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a time of year where many people host pink events to support people affected by breast cancer.
Due to covid restrictions still present in our community, Cancer Council NSW are doing something a little different and asking Southern Highlands pets and their humans to pink it up to support the cause.
Community Relations Coordinator for Southern communities, Brooke Manzione said that pets had been so important to people during the pandemic in providing many benefits to their health and was excited to be including furry companions in this campaign.
"Many of our pink events have had to be cancelled or postponed this year so we really needed to think about how we can raise awareness and vital funds for people affected by cancer, but also keep the community safe at the same time," she said.
"We are asking for anyone who has a beloved pet who isn't afraid to have their picture taken, to join the Pets in Pink - Southern Highlands team.
"Pets in Pink is designed to bring people together digitally, to share photos of pets and stories while still raising awareness and vital funds so we can continue our research, programs and services to work towards a future free from breast cancer."
The funds raised will help Cancer Council NSW continue to operate vital services and programs including financial support, in home help, their 13 11 20 information and support line as well as funding life-saving research and cancer prevention programs to work towards a cancer free future.
