Mevissen will lace up his shoes for an epic 100km trek over two days, all to raise money for cerebral palsy equipment.

As part of the STEPtember campaign run by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, the Mittagong local will traverse the Wingecarribee Shire in order to meet his goal of over $2000.

Currently sitting on just over $1800, Mevissen said he wanted to make a difference in the lives of those with the condition as well as their carers.

"People with cerebral palsy can't walk and I can so I'm walking for them," he told the Southern Highland News.

"I've directed the money raised not to go into research but equipment to make their lives better and the lives of their carers. I value the opportunity to walk and this will help them be more mobile."

This Saturday will see Mevissen reach Goodmans Ford near Wombeyan Caves whilst Sunday's destination is Paddys River via Berrima and Canyonleigh.

Never one to shirk a challenge, Mevissen will throw in some extra hurdles along the way.

"I'm going to be doing 10 squats and 20 pushups every kilometre," he revealed.

"That's 1000 squats and 2000 pushups over the two days, just to spice it up a little.

"Just to walk, it's freedom. It's low impact exercise and it's good for the headspace, it's very calming I find. A lot of people jump in the car just to go to the shops, walking is underrated.

"I love a bit of electronic dance music, keeps my steps going fast and furious but I won't listen to music all the time, I'll listen to nature as well."

Despite never having trekked such a distance, Mevissen said he had some inspiration close to home.

"I love walking and it's good for my back and my dad, who is from Holland, won medals in the Dutch Army for walking," he said.

"I've never walked 100km, my father and I walked 40km in one day once but that's the longest I've ever walked.

"I'm following in my father's footsteps so to speak."
