Wingecarribee Shire Council, in consultation with and response to concerns raised by participating artists, considered the current COVID-19 situation as well as potential changes and the impact these may have on this year's event.
Interim deputy manager Marissa Racomelara said the health and safety of the community was the most important factor in council's decision making.
"We've since made the difficult decision to call off the 2021 Arts Trail," she said.
"However not all is lost, and we're committed to working with our creative community to build upon momentum from previous years.
"Artists and their work will continue to be showcased on our dedicated arts and culture website, ARTSFile, and on social media.
"Together with Southern Tablelands Arts and the Southern Region Business Enterprise Centre we're also preparing to launch a series of online professional development opportunities for local creatives.
"While it's disappointing this year's trail will not go ahead, we are looking forward to a stronger, more resilient event in 2022."
Further details will be released over the coming weeks.
The creative sector has been significantly impacted by the pandemic, and these promotional and professional development opportunities aim to provide artists with the tools to succeed.
