There are currently 13 active cases of COVID-19 in the Highlands as of August 28, 2021, one case in the 2579 postcode, three cases in the 2576 postcode and nine cases in the 2575 postcode.
A total of 19 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded since the pandemic began in June 2021.
The increase of one new case in the shire comes as the Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro announced that parts of regional NSW would open up on September 11.
It was earlier reported today that the Southern Highlands and parts of the Southern Tablelands would remain in lockdown.
Wingecarribee Shire Council, Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Queanbeyan-Palerang will remain in lockdown.
Yass Valley Council and Upper Lachlan Shire Council will have restrictions lifted on September 11.
Mr Barilaro said the government would look at easing restrictions in local government areas (LGAs) on a weekly basis.
"Every council will be reviewed every week," he said.
"There is an opportunity for other LGAs to come out of lockdown restrictions based on the last exposure in the community."
However, Mr Barilaro stipulated that LGAs that had a case in the last 14 days would not come out of lockdown.
"You've got to count the date of your last case, plus 14 days and that would be an opportunity to come out of lockdown," he said.
"If there are areas that have cases that pop up, they will go into an automatic lockdown for 14 days."
Mr Barilaro said other criteria to lift lockdown restrictions included sewage surveillance, case numbers and exposure sites.
"Sewage surveillance will be included in the criteria as a guide, we won't shut places down or take them out of lockdown because of sewage surveillance but it will be a guide," he said.
"Exposure sites will also be considered but the number one thing will be a COVID case.
"If you have not had a COVID case in a 14 day period, more than likely with some level of exposure sites or sewage surveillance you can still come out of lockdown."
It remains vital that anyone who has any symptoms or is a close or casual contact with a person with COVID-19, isolates and is tested immediately.
Across NSW, 1405 people tested positive for COVID-19 and more than 156,000 people were tested for COVID-19 up until September 8, 8 pm.
