Minister announces public inquiry into Wingecarribee Shire Council
A public inquiry will be held into Wingecarribee Shire Council. The announcement was first made in the NSW Government Gazette, September 1. Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock appointed Mr Ross Glover to hold a public inquiry into Wingecarribee Shire Council.
Southern Highlands records five cases of COVID
On Thursday, as NSW records a staggering 1288 cases of COVID-19, Wingecarribee Shire recorded a total of five cases, and the IGA in Moss Vale was closed for deep cleaning. In Goulburn, Cooma and Bega, virus fragments have been detected in the local sewage systems. It was also revealed that two people were charged following a protest outside the Moss Vale Council Chambers on Tuesday.
Man charged for multiple alleged COVID-19 breaches
A man has been charged with allegedly breaching the Public Health Order on multiple occasions in the Southern Highlands. It will be alleged the 40-year-old failed to self-isolate several times between Thursday, August 26 and Monday, August 30, 2021, after being deemed a close contact by NSW Health.
Kombi Van nostalgia comes to the Highlands
Have you spotted a peach-coloured Kombi-camper van around the Highlands? The van, known as Nellie Melba, is a cute but practical take on a Kombi Chassis, that Highlanders can create memories in with a staycation. Business owners Tim Pollard and Jane Quinn joined forces and created Retro RV Southern Highlands which launched on September 1.
Three mates raise money through Mullets for Mental Health
Sam Malone, Patrick King and Oskar Watson are raising money for the Black Dog Institute's Mullets for Mental Health. They have to sport their hair-do for the month of September, and have already raised over $1500. Their goal is at least $2000.
Pair jailed for Mittagong RSL armed robbery
A man and woman have been jailed for armed robbery after more than $19,000 was stolen from Mittagong RSL last year. Stuart John Wells, 27, of Bowral, and Kristy Barbara Burke, 40, of Moss Vale, appeared before Campbelltown District Court on August 27.
Nominations for rural woman of the year award now open
Nominations for the 2022 Rural Women's Award is now open and women across NSW have been encouraged to put up their hand. Last year Southern Highlands local Cressida Cain won the 2021 Rural Women's Award.
