The prospect of summer sports competitions has been uncertain after lockdown meant winter sporting seasons were cut short.

Mittagong Cricket Club President Scott Miller said that registrations and interest in the 2022 season have gone well.

Miller predicted that two senior teams could play next season, and hoped that the club would also have three junior teams.

"People seem to be keen," he said.

"We need to get out and play sport again.

"We are pretty happy with the interest and old players have also returned."

Director of the Highlands District Cricket Association's (HDCA) representative program Sam Nasser said that people were eager for their academy.

"Almost 100 people have registered, which is fantastic," he said.

"Fingers crossed that it will go ahead."

The 10 week intensive program would be open for players between the ages of nine and under 18.

"The academy has been about improving skills and development within the district," Nasser continued.

"We only launched it last year, and we had 80 people then."

While Nasser admitted that it had not looked like there would be "much of an academy this year", but the response has been terrific.

The HDCA has also introduced U15s girls and boys teams this year within the academy.

"We would love to see more girls play cricket," Nasser said.

There would also be a mixed team.

Nasser and Miller are hopeful to start the season again.
