Ngununggula means belonging in the traditional language of the Gundungurra people, and is the inspiration and name behind the Southern Highlands' first regional gallery.

The facility is due to open in Retford Park's former dairy on September 25, which aims to showcase the diversity of the region.
The gallery announced its inaugural board of directors today who strived to make it an educational resource in the Highlands.
Ngununggula was founded by renowned Highlands Ben Quilty who was also appointed as a director of the board.
"We were thrilled to have such an incredible Board of Directors join us as we prepare to open Ngununggula," said director Megan Monte.
"They all have a strong connection to the Southern Highlands region, and are committed to seeing the success of the gallery."

Mr Quilty was joined by many experts including the former head of Gib Gate, Frensham and Sturt Julie Gillick OAM, who was announced as the gallery chair.
Broun Abrahams Burreket managing partner Jamie Burreket, media business executive John Alexander, executive chairman and founder of Richard Crookes Constructions Richard Crookes were also announced.
They were joined by Dharawal elder and adviser for Aboriginal archaeological fieldwork Aunty Glenda Walker, artist, art patron and Australian Wildlife Conservancy director Michelle Belgiorno.
The final directors were journalist and publisher Jennifer Byrne and Wearne and Co founder Keith Wearne.
Exhibitions, live events, workshops, projects led by local artists and opportunities to collaborate with local schools were some of the initiatives planned for the gallery.
Highlanders would also have the opportunity to connect with artists, and Indigenous artists would have the chance to commission work in the gallery's Entry Pavillion.
The gallery would operate in partnership with the WSC, National Trust, NSW Government and donors.
