The annual initiative, run by students from ANU in Canberra, aims to raise money for youth mental health charity Batyr.
Since first being held in 2010, Civic2Surf has evolved into a 360km relay-style run from Canberra to Sydney with the Southern Highlands marking the halfway point.
While back then it took participants four days to run the course, they now aim to do it in the space of 24 hours through the use of relay runners.
Participants share a meal at Bong Bong Racecourse at the end of the first day before camping out overnight.
The start of the second and final day is a special one as participants and locals come together for a memorial walk for former Civic2Surf President Harriet Nixon.
Approximately 80 students from ANU will participate in this year's run with a fundraising goal of $20,000 set.
