Berrima's Overflow opened 18 years ago and owner/manager Dana Battcock said that Berrima was great for warm woollen jumpers in winter and lightweight cool clothing in summer and these garments are exactly what they know and love in this warm and inviting store.
"It's a great place for woollen jumpers. In winter Australian Merino that has been spun, dyed and knitted in Scotland, England and Ireland and other parts of Europe are made into the most beautiful long-lasting jumpers. And in summer cotton, linen, and silk clothing, light and cool, coming from Australia, UK, Europe and India form the backbone of our trade."
Dana said Berrima had a sense of history and timelessness, of appreciating quality and longevity, of a slower life. "All the values that are dear to us and are reflected in the clothing that we stock," Dana said.
"We are all just so thrilled and so proud of our beautiful little village. I have lived and worked here for more than 20 years and Berrima is blooming. I have never known such energy, excitement and community spirit that we have around us now. I feel totally privileged to be apart of it.
"Having been brought up on a remote sheep station in South West Queensland, Merino wool is in my DNA. We promote the Australian wool industry as well as the cotton industry and to promote natural fibre clothing."
In the business with Dana are five fabulous staff members who she couldn't do without and a very patient and understanding family who sometimes have to be models and photographers, website designers and social media gurus, storeman and packers, travel agents and navigators, listeners and advisors and so much more.
"We have Natalie who works for us a couple of days a week who has set up Explore Berrima - a comprehensive website on everything you need to know about Berrima and she has produced a pocket size map and guide to all the businesses."
Dana ascribes Berrima's success to the congeniality of the people. "We are a friendly lot. Business owners and residents all support each other and each other's businesses. I think we are all so proud of each and everyone's individual efforts that have all come together to make us a vibrant little village.
"And there are many perks. I can park easily, I am spoilt for choice of where I can get great coffee or delicious lunch to have at my desk, I have a dreamy view from my "office" window and I have lovely customers who we all enjoy helping."
The business supports many fundraising events, from Berrima school to the Australian Himalayan Foundation to a crew who are rowing across the Atlantic in support of Mental Health. "It's fun to support and be involved in even a small way."
