There was nothing left of the bookstore after it destroyed several shops on Bong Bong Street last Thursday.

Shop owner Phil Israel was on the street after the blaze broke out that night, and said that it "was out of control."

"The only thing you could see was smoke," he said.

Mr Israel's store was located inside the Highlands Arcade.

"I looked into the arcade and could not figure out what I was looking at," he said.

"I then realised I was no longer looking at my shop, and it was all in flames."

"The bookstore was completely flattened, there was not even a wall left," added manager Justine Joffe.

When he watched the flames, Mr Israel knew that the store needed to continue, but with a new and commemorative name.

"It was a new beginning," he said.

"The name just came to me, so I went home and registered it, and got an online domain."

The store also sold CDs, DVDs and Vinyls.

Other stores claimed in the fires are currently looking for new spaces to continue their business in the Highlands.

Ms Joffe put a callout in a Bundanoon Facebook page for donations for a new shop, and the post got shared to other pages in the Highlands.

"In the morning, I woke to over 70 private messages with people saying they wanted to help," she said.

"I am still in shock of it, but what has helped is the enormous support from people," Mr Israel added.

"We were totally blown away, it was very heartwarming."

A storage space was secured at 73 Lytton St in Moss Vale for donations, and was open to the public from 3:00pm to 5:00pm today.

The Phoenix Bookstore announced on Instagram that the space will be open for donations from 12:00pm - 1:00pm this week after its success today.

"I do feel positive," Ms Joffe said.

"The community spirit has been incredible."

Mr Israel also mentioned the flames claimed the store on its fourth birthday.
