The woman's body was found by a family member at the Comerong Island Road home at Numbaa, around 11.20am.
A contingent of general duty officers from the South Coast Police District along with detectives have cordoned off the house, establishing a crime scene.
A scientific officer is investigating the scene.
Within a short time police arrested a 37-year-old man at a nearby property, which has also been cordoned off with police tape.
He was taken to Nowra Police Station, where he is assisting officers with their inquiries.
Police are treating the death as suspicious.
Comerong Island Road, east of Nowra is closed between Millbank Road and Jindy Andy Lane due to the ongoing operation and is expected to be closed for some hours.
Access is only available for residents.

A man is in police custody after a woman's body was found at a home near Nowra this morning.
About 11.20am (Friday, June 11), emergency services were called to Comerong Island Road, Numbaa, just east of Nowra, following reports a woman's body had been found.
Officers attached to South Coast Police District, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene a short time later, where the woman was pronounced deceased.
A crime scene was established and investigations began into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The woman was found by a family member after she couldn't be contacted.
A 37-year-old man was arrested nearby a short time later.
He was taken to Nowra Police Station, where he is assisting officers with their inquiries.
