As a former orchardist, birds were not always his friend, however as time passed he grew quite fond of them.

Described as interesting and educational, Birds are Intelligent is Mr Bicknell's third published book.

His book features 48 different poems, which has been illustrated by Southern Highlands artist, Jacqui Brown.

"There's a lot of humour in to the poems. They're a little off beat and there's some information next to them," he said.

"They are interesting and educational."

Mr Bicknell's two other books that have been published are 'Twelve years in "care"- a British migrants story', and 'Birds and Words'.

Mr Bicknell will launch his book at Picton Library June 16. The event will be held The View Room, on level 1 between 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm. The event is free but bookings are essential. You can book here to attend.
