Mr May will effectively act as the mayor and councillors in this time period and must perform all the functions, powers and duties of the Council.
Mr May will also be responsible for the implementation of the suspension order and any performance improvement order and reports on progress to the Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock and will conduct council meetings, undertake civic and ceremonial functions, undertake administrative functions of the role which including the oversight of the general manager and the implementation of any performance improvement orders.
As the new administrator of Wingecarribee Shire Council, Mr May will be remunerated by Wingecarribee Shire Council which is based on the current level of councillor and mayoral fees for Wingecarribee Shire Council as set by the Local Government Remuneration Tribunal.
Mr May will be based at the Moss Vale Civil Centre and will work closely with acting general manager John Burgess. He will consider all staff reports presented to Council and make decisions. Mr May would also able to bring matters to council via Administrator Minutes.
Residents will be able to contact and engage with Mr May and will still be able to contact the council or report on issues in the usual way.
Council meetings will remain open to the public and are live-streamed and webcast. Due to the Public Health Orders currently in place, council meetings are ticketed to meet social distancing guidelines.
Council staff are not affected by the suspension notice.
During the suspension period, councillors won't entitled to exercise the functions of civic office or receive any fee or other remuneration. They will also be required to hand over any council equipment they have for the period of three months.
